I go away to get married in about a week and half and counting. When we return both future hubbie (butterflies) and I know that life will be just as busy, if not more so, as before.

With all this organisation in mind, I’ve spent the last three weeks meticulously planning our departure AND, our return; I truly believe it when I say that to come home to chaos negates the rest that a holiday gives you.

So here are a few ideas you may want to try:

  • charlotte casadejus bolster cherryIt’s probable that you’ll be tired when you arrive back from your trip (especially if you’re travelling with children). Ensure that you have the soundest sleep possible on your first night home and leave clean bedding, stretched tight, on all the beds. Part psychological, part aesthetic but it works.

  • Never ever leave leftovers in your fridge when you’re away for any length of time. Freeze them or compost them. Do not leave last night’s supper wrapped in tin foil - you’ll never eat it and it’ll only smell adding to your chores.

  • Post hols you won’t want to think about food so have a healthy menu planned out for your first three days home and have the relevant items in the freezer/dry store waiting.

  • billet doux amelie editors picksWrite all thank you notes (I’ve just had a divine delivery of correspondence cards from Billet Doux )and pay all bills, in short, action all correspondence that’s requires it so you don’t have it hanging over you the minute you’re back.

  • Kitchen worktops, kitchen table, all beds and your desk (ie sacred surfaces) must, must, must be cleared prior to your return.
