Leather: Follow Fashion & Add It To Your Home Monday 10th September 2007 by Georgie Coleridge Cole
With leather the key fabric on the A/W fashion scene it’s no surprise to see it cropping up on the interiors front too.
There’s a preconception that leather creates a look that’s cold, dark and masculine but we’re here to prove that it needn’t be so.
Whilst one would never call it cosy, choose well and it can be called sleek, chic and feminine. And when it comes to spills and stains, it can also be a lot more practical (pictured, Dwell ).
For light leather living choose from a palette of tan, caramel, mushroom, cream and for a look that’s crisp, even white (pictured, Go Modern ).
If the idea of a leather sofa just isn’t cosy enough then explore other options.
A smart brown leather arm chair works as well in a light and airy sitting room as it does in a study. This one (pictured ) looks like a trusted old friend of the family.
Still too much? Then incorporate leather in your living space with stylish accessories: waste paper baskets, umbrella stands, photo frames and coasters will add a touch of sleek sophistication (pictured, Go Modern ). Visit Brissi for a whole host of stylish white and mushroom leather home accessories.
Pile your fabric sofa high with cushions in contrasting textures. Include a couple in the softest of leather.
Storage boxes that are on show should be practical, functional and smart. Tuck your clutter, bits and bobs away into smart leather boxes that will fit neatly on your shelves or, swap a traditional coffee table or console for a leather trunk or chest. For any array visit The Holding Company .
Tip: As with many things in life, less is more; a rule that applies to leather whether you’re adding to your wardrobe or updating your living space.
