You can’t have missed the news: along with the waist, the biker boot and the Spice Girls, the lipstick is back on the scene. Making its first appearance at the beginning of summer, only with the arrival of winter’s structured styles does it finally feel appropriate; effortlessly working grown-up glamour and maturity, it delivers a welcome respite from the go-here-go-there flippancy of gloss and makes an essential update to any makeup bag.
Choose from rich burgundies, blue-reds and pretty pinks and corals – with a semi-matte finish to keep the look youthful – and look for super-moisturising formulas to protect against the elements. Bold colours demand a liner to prevent bleeding but otherwise simply slick on, blot off and go. Good prep work and a super-smooth surface are essential for long lasting results so use an exfoliating scrub to slough away flakes and moisturise throughout the day.
