Little Attire...
Tuesday 6th May 2008 by Dulwich Mum

dulwich mum 2Bea Parry-Jones is a late thirty something mother of two. She’s author of hugely successful blog Dulwichmum , in which she documents her efforts to avoid absolute lunacy and remain on the right side of conscientious parenting. She and her husband spend a small fortune on private education, Baby Boden, Babybels and the au pairs gym membership.

Bea’s first novel “Sex Lies and Sellotape – confessions of a Dulwich mum” will be published in 2008.

I’m currently on a carbohydrate free/alcohol free diet (OMG how dull am I) in an effort to perfect my figure prior to the summer swimwear fest. Until I’m once again beach body perfect, I shall be avoiding the purchase of any further garments for myself (sigh), and instead turning my attentions to the attire of my little ‘uns.

There’s a wonderful array of shopping emporia at our finger tips. I’m quite simply spoilt for choice! I can select from contemporary sites and styles acknowledging current fashion looks for my tiny daughter (5 years) that I could never possibly carry off myself (eg skinny jeans) or, I can instead ensure she doesn’t grow up any quicker than she already is (she’s a picture in my Louboutins) and opt for more traditional looks.

lfg bonpoint dulwich mumLittle Fashion Gallery has the perfect mix of vintage and trendy contemporary designers from Tuss, Finger in the Nose, Album Di Famiglia, Quincy, Wowo and Bonpoint (pictured left) – yes that’s right, I now needn’t traipse into town to get my hands on the ultimate label for the fashion forward little 'un.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m more than aware that my progeny are not fashion accessories, but I must admit that I would’ve happily purchased several of Little Fashion Gallery’s styles for myself - have you seen their Petite Maloles ?!

I should be thankful that it’s no longer in Vogue for mothers to dress their girls “mini-me” style - an image of myself and my mother in vile matching floral 70s A-lines with identical patterned head scarves still haunts me...

For even more contemporary children’s wear, Alex and Alexa do divine little Cacharel, Maan and American Outfitters.

Alternatively, for a profusion of traditional styles, Kent & Carey and Rachel Riley are a must. Rachel Riley’s party dresses are simply perfect; beautiful clothes in classic styles that are sure not to date and cause later shame in family photographs!

adventino dulwich mum My little angel will look quite the lady, and is sure to agree to wear any of the clothes I have selected for her. She can be frightfully strong willed (I wonder where she gets that from?).

My beautiful boy loves nothing more than copying Daddy so he’s sure to look quite the dashing gent (my son, not my husband) in Kent & Carey’s little shirts - although my husband would never dream of buying a short sleeved shirt for himself. Perhaps I’ll try and slip one into his wardrobe in an effort to co-ordinate my two men (smirk).

Adventino is another online store that I’m impressed by, with clothes by Little Linens (pictured above right) and Ilovegorgeous - you see I really am spoilt for choice! With no more than a few clicks, I’ll have my little brood kitted out for a picture perfect summer in no time!

Now all I need to do, is lose that dreaded half a stone before I start to consider my own wardrobe (gasp)...
