Make Your Home Sparkle With Metallics

Tuesday 19th February 2008 by Elizabeth Richards

elizabeth richards 2Metallics remain on-trend this season with the look seen everywhere from the catwalks at London Fashion Week to the shelves of revered beauty halls and interiors created by our most influential designers. So while it’s still cold outside, stay one step ahead of spring and add a little sparkle to your home with stylish shades of gold, silver, bronze and pewter.

Such a dominant trend should be handled with care so a little careful planning is essential to stay in style. Overindulgence runs the risk of looking tacky so look instead for accessories with metallic details: a cushion shot with bronze threads, silver candlesticks, a low-hanging pewter pendant light. They’ll work with just about any style of decor – modern or traditional.

Midsummer (pictured left) from the Drama collection at Graham & Brown – a leaf silhouette with accents of hot pink – is absolutely perfect.

swarovski spina cushionsStripes are another key details for Spring / Summer so score style brownie points on two counts with Platinum Striped Silk Cushions. Otherwise, Swarovski Crystal-Studded Cushions (pictured right) catch the light and look suitably sumptuous without being too obviously metallic.

Introducing the trend into the kitchen is almost too easy. Silverware is the obvious answer but why not choose something with a little more warmth: beautiful French Copper Saucepans are ideal. They’ll last a lifetime, will never go out of fashion and, unlike traditional tin-lined copper pans which demand regular relining, have durable stainless steel interiors.

Choose from mini-mugs, teacups, saucers, espresso cups and a beautiful jug. China this beautiful deserves to be used every day so don’t save for best!

Lighting is always a clever way to work with the latest look: for seriously stylish sparkle, treat your home to a chrome plated Bourgie Table Lamp. Perfect as a bedside light, on a sideboard in the sitting room or beside the sofa, it has a dimmer switch to deliver anything from an ambient glow to bright light. It’s already a contemporary classic so invest now for everlasting kudos.

With its gilt mahogany carved frame and upholstery in silver-grey raw silk, it works well in any well-appointed sitting room, drawing room or bedroom.

Their Bronze Nut Collection (pictured left) makes the perfect coffee table talking point proving that, however your home is styled, this trend really is surprisingly workable.
