spa and health club at the landmark london directoryFor October, The Landmark Spa got our vote.

Where is it?
Within The Landmark Hotel.
222 Marylebone Road, London, NW1 6JQ
www.LandmarkSpa.com

The line
A private retreat for restoring and refreshing mind, body and spirit.

The scene
Nestled deep beneath the atrium of this celebrated five star hotel, the spa has been recently refurbished in rich dark woods with oriental touches and seductive lighting to include four good-sized treatment rooms: Klafs sanarium, semi-ozone treated pool, state of the art gymnasium and snug relaxation lounge. Changing rooms are warm and spacious with each having its own mosaic-tiled steam room.

Who goes?
A-listers, hotel guests and Londoners looking to escape the fast pace of city life. The club is for members only which creates an exclusive environment. Day membership is priced at £30 per adult and £10 for guests staying at The Landmark.

The menu
Body, skincare, aromatherapy and prenatal treatments. The salon upstairs handles mani-pedis.

The names
ESPA products are used in treatments and are available to buy at reception. A card with product recommendations is provided after any treatments but there is of course no obligation to purchase.

Signature treatment
For body beautiful and a clear mind, choose the ayurvedic Signature Ritual, £190 for two hours 30 minutes, which opens with a foot massage before taking in a full body exfoliation, aromatherapy massage, hot stone treatment and application of deep-cleansing marine mud. The treatment concludes with a facial, scalp massage and all-over moisture cream.

We tried
Full body massage, £75 for 60 minutes. A straightforward massage is hard to find in today’s age of holistic therapies but The Landmark Spa & Health Club earned serious brownie points for this utterly uncomplicated stress-busting treatment. A quick scent-test revealed the most appropriate oil – soothing or revitalising – which was then applied to the whole body with the therapist concentrating on troublesome or tense areas. Twenty minutes in the relaxation room afterwards completed proceedings.

The results
Muscles felt instantly looser and skin softer while stress levels dipped for several days.

Special mention
With light and sound effects for total escapism, the glass-walled Klafs sanarium has less of the intense heat of a traditional sauna and is perfect for a bit of personal downtime. Don’t forget to use the essence-infused raindrench showers on the way out.

Gift vouchers
Day packages and specific spa rituals are available as vouchers for delivery in the UK and internationally. Choose the option of next day UK delivery when ordered before 12 noon to solve any last-minute present panics!
