Perfect Pores

You know what it's like. You get up, take a shower, spend at least ten minutes painstakingly applying your makeup and then... a few minutes crammed on public transport and you can feel the whole lot is sliding off. If your skin is even remotely oily this is the time of year you’ll be feeling the heat – despite the downpours of late – but when makeup reaches meltdown don’t attempt to repair it. Reach instead for your secret stash of blotting papers: without a doubt one of the one of the most essential but underrated beauty bag staples of all time.

Lightweight and finely textured, these little papers instantly absorb excess shine from noses, cheeks, foreheads, chins – anywhere, in fact – to reduce the appearance of open pores and leave skin fresh and matte. Some come impregnated with a neutral or pink-tinged powder to smooth skin tone and repair bare patches while others merely blot and lift oil: it’s simply a matter of personal taste. Keep a packet in your bag, another in your desk drawer and a third in your jacket pocket: they’re cheap, effective and discreet. The final selling point? The irresistibly dinky packaging!
