When it comes to the guest room, clean towels and a stash of delicious bathroom goodies (shampoo, bubbles and even cotton wools and buds etc) are essential. A few copies of Hello and House & Garden are also a nice touch (especially if you want to encourage guests to some pre dinner downtime whilst you get organised!).

But what about some tasty treats? Shouldn’t they be essential too?!

You know, the ones that leave a lasting impression of sweetness?

I trawled my house to find the smallest receptacles suitable for these sneaky treats and filled them to the brim with pastel coloured pick & mix from my new found friend AQuarterOf.com

My hublet (we’re almost married!) said the plate of cupcake cases was the cutest thing he’d ever seen and my own mother took a handful home.

If you’re thinking of trying this for yourself then here are a few ideas to help you on your way...

  • Set the scene. Use tiny brightly coloured petit fours cases and place them, filled with candy, on to a floral or brightly patterned plate. Easy but effective and like everything I do, ‘Beautifully Doable’.

  • Pop a larger bowl of sweets in your guest room – on a chest of drawers or next to the bed; it’s the more glamorous version of the mint on the pillow.

  • If petit four cases aren’t on offer then vintage china cups (get yours from Judith Michael & Daugter ) are perfect for this homemaking exercise; add a saucer to the mix and tie a ribbon around the top.

Never underestimate the power that these sorts of touches will have on your guests, your friends and even your family. The warm fuzzies that you’ll experience from creating a home full of ‘moments’ far outweighs the scoffing. Though that bit is always fun too!
