Your Mother, Her Garden Tuesday 26th February 2008 by Cherry Menlove
So, it’s Mothering Sunday this weekend and dutiful daughters across the land are trying to pick out the perfect gift for the person who offered bosomy cuddles when we were sad, sat us up on the kitchen worktop to wash our knees when we had fallen over and told us how one day we would get over him when we had been rejected at the school disco.
If you find it tricky to buy for your mummy then why not consider buying for her garden - it can be much less of a minefield than buying for her home.
Don’t opt for a plant or a rose bush this year instead put your heart, soul and thinking cap into searching for a gardening companion which will weather any storm.
If you have an eco-warrior mum then you simply can’t go wrong with Baileys Home & Garden . Their Hand-Forged Fork and Trowels is one of the nicest sets around and the Birch Plywood Trug... ahhhhhh (I have a thing for trugs!)
If you have a mummy who loves to have grand children falling off of every limb then pay a visit to The Burford Garden Company and treat your mum to a Hand Inscribed Swing .
Yes, that’s right, a swing. To swing back and forth in a cool spring breeze is something that none of us do often enough. And if the act of swinging isn’t for her then she can enjoy summer afternoons spent in the garden pushing her grand children.
If you’re on a budget then this Seed Box is always a firm favourite with anyone green fingered. And if she isn’t all that in to seeds then it’s ultra useful for storing bits and bobs!
And for a well priced pretty garden gift then a Set of Two Victorian Style Rustic Wooden Planters is simply divine. Imagine them filled with hyacinths and sitting on the kitchen window sill... now what could be prettier than that?
Finally for the mummy who wants luxury, even in the garden treat her to a Georgian Bird Bath
from Haddonstone, so stunning is it that it wouldn’t look out of place in the gardens of Blenheim.
Weighing in at 200lbs, make sure you get the chaps to carry it in and install next to her garden seat. It isn’t cheap but it is a stunning piece that can be passed from mother to daughter, daughter to grandchild.
So much nicer than a bunch of daffs, don’t you think?
