Pretty Pooped... Published on Friday 21st December 2007
Here at SL HQ we’re pretty pooped. We’ve 'virtually' shopped till we’ve dropped and we’re ready for a rest. A rest filled with turkey, trimmings, family and friends and of course, all those presents that we’ve spent recent weeks hunting high and low for.
Mulled wine, gluhwein, vin chaud (call it what you will) is the ideal winter warmer for those chilly Christmas nights and beyond (it’ll soon have you longing for alpine village and snowy pistes) and it’s a great way to make cheap wine taste fabulous.
So with this in mind we thought blogger Belinda’s
recipe might come in handy. Whilst you can buy mulled wine in every supermarket across the land we thought a)we’d step off the shopping gas for our last Luxe Mail of the year and b)that there’s something really rather festive about making your own.
To serve around 6, you’ll need:
1 litre cheap red wine
100-125g caster sugar (to taste)
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Juice of a large orange and lemon
Simply pour the wine into a saucepan, add the other ingredients and heat until almost boiling.
Strain and serve with orange or lemon wedges, a cinnamon stick and a mince pie!
Happy Christmas to one and all!x
