You Don’t Know Until You’ve Tried… Published on Wednesday 16th January 2008
As a child my father had one rule (well, one in particular that stayed with me) – that we always had to try something before we said we didn’t like it; if we’d tried it and didn’t like it then fair enough...
At a young age a girlfriend came to France with the family and was forced to eat snails; another friend came to tea and was made to eat liver...
I haven't touched either since (nor have they for that matter!) but I’m happy to say I’ve given them a go.
With Burns night (that celebrates the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns - he wrote Auld Lang Syne... that one you sung after one too many at New Year) less than ten days away we thought it was a good time to introduce those of you who haven’t tried it, to the wonderful world of haggis.
Yes that’s right, that thing that you’ve probably never dared try. Haggis is delicious; it’s not at all what you’d expect. Set your standards high and start with the best – Donald Russel’s haggis is made by the Macsween family who are probably the most famous haggis makers in the world.
It’s perfect wrapped in foil or filo pastry (my favourite) and baked in the oven.
So go on give it a try and order yours for 25th January now. It’s the classic Burn’s night supper.
