Autumn / Winter Trend Report

At SheerLuxe we follow fashion but we’re not a slave to it; we enjoy fashion but we don’t live for it. Because in our eyes good fashion sense is as much about style as it is about die hard followings.

Sophisticated glamour vs. laid back bohemia; serious power dressing vs. fall florals; failsafe black vs. tomato red; soft curves vs. architectural tailoring... This Autumn / Winter there’s no shortage of choice.

As always elements of military (best done with a coat), metallics (accessories), winter whites (soft knits) and of course black (yes it’s back) have a part to play.

Here’s our round up for all you need to know about dressing on trend but in style this season.

matches balenciaga black lace mini dress Dark Romance: Dark Romance was one of the biggest looks shown for A/W. Get dark and dangerous in black – be it an off the shoulder LBD or the long and lean maxi. Add lashings of lace, both edgy and feminine it’s the detail du jour. For added allure look for gauze panels and chiffon layers. Add high drama with embellishment: dark damask, sequins, feathers and dramatic jewels.

my theresa rupert sanderson vogue patent leather booties Bad Girl: This season’s bad girl, whether you’re going more soft goth (liquid liner to the ready) or punk is all about serious attitude. The brave will don studs and spikes a la Burberry, the rest should stick to zips and buckles. Work delicate cobweb knits and tights, chunky utilitarian boots (dig out those DMs if you dare), high necks and long hems.

my theresa marni boucle high collar coat Country life: The knotted silk scarf leads the way in the Country Life trend. Team it with fur, sheepskin, shearling and tweed and you’re set for days in the country hob nobbing with the aristocracy. Too much at once? Then all the above work well with simple separates (fine knits, wide legged denim, white shirts and silk blouses).

browns fashion house of holland tartan pleated blouse Plaid Parade: Follow D&G, House of Holland and Preen in what can only be described as a plaid parade. Plaid / tartan / hounds tooth should be in every woman’s wardrobe this season. Opt for the modern day alternative to the rodeo lumberjack or be bold and clash a head to toe ensemble of contrasting oversized checks.

my wardrobe methane dress by paul joe Red Alert: Of all the jewel colours (emerald, sapphire, amethyst, citrine) that graced the runways, red was the shining star. Whether in shades or ruby, scarlet or tomato – don’t go without a ruffle red blouse, a LRD (nothing makes a cocktail statement better) or a colour bright coat. Complete the look with black opaque tights and patent black accessories.

my theresa matthew williamson grey belted furcoat Folkloric: Hermes, D&G and Gucci did folkloric for the grown up hippy. Hark back to the 1970s with peasant blouses and pretty prints. Mix n match and team tassles, fringing and skinny leather belts with vintage finds for inimitable boho style. For just a touch add a fringed scarf in fiery autumnal shades.

nap paul and joe toufleur tunic dress Fall Florals & Prints:A/W needn’t be all about doom and gloom and floral prints are aplenty. If florals are too feminine, wrap up in an animal print instead.

browns rm lilas top with collar Power Dresser: Show you mean business and look for architectural shapes and structured silhouettes. The cut is contrasting: either sharp and severe or round and billowing at the shoulders. The power suit is back. Coats are best kept simple and belted; buttons and fastenings are hidden.

my theresa fendi layered knit and silk dress Sequins, Bows, Pleats & Ruffles: Can’t quite leave all that femininity behind? Fear not, runways were awash with sequins, ruffles, pleats, tulle layers and bows. For a pared down look opt for neutrals: blush / nude / cream and mushroom. Throw in a zip or a splash of lace, leather or black patent and bring it all right up to date.

browns alexander wang boyfriend blazer with contrasting lapels Key Pieces: LBD / Cocktail Dress with volume at back/ Pencil Skirt / Trousers (Cropped, Skinny, Wed Leg, Rolled Pant, Leather, Voluminous / Denim Flare) / Tunic / Sweater Dress / Belted Coat / Biker Jacket / Tuxedo Jacket / Fur Coat or Gilet / Power Suit / High Neck Knit / Sloppy Cashmere Cardigan (belted open over dresses)

Bags: Baby Bags / Satchels /Chain Handles / Super Clutch (again) /Uber Luxe (have you seen Prada’s lace number?!)

nap sigerson morrison metallic ballet flatsAccessories: Silk Headscarves /Art Deco Cuffs / Statement Necklaces (perspex or coin) / Mid Length Gloves / Fur Tippets / Tights (opaque and prints) / Cashmere Beanies / Brown Leather Belts / Skinny Belts / Double Buckle Belts

Footwear: Cone Heels /Platforms / Patent Leather / Over the Knee Boots / Shoe Boots / Studded Boots / Brogues / Evening Flats

Sound daunting. Only if you try and do it all.
