New Nail Shades & Trends For Autumn

Rich, sophisticated, colourful – this autumn, manis are bold and worn to make a statement. From glossy navy to suits-all burgundy, we’ve rounded up the top colours to experiment with, including the shapes and finishes set to reign supreme this season….

GLOSSY NAVYS:

Dubbed as the ‘shade of the season’ by many nail experts during fashion week AW’19, you can expect to see navy nails everywhere for autumn. “Instead of the usual dark hues of reds and burgundies, it’s all about a deep navy right now. It’s a fresh and androgynous twist that was seen on the runways of Armani & House of Holland,” confirms Ama Quashie, Session Manicurist and Founder of The Ama Salon.

URBAN GRUNGE:

Sludgy greens, muddy greys and retro browns – these urban colours are coming through for autumn in a big way. The key to making them work? “Keep your shape neat and tidy, either filing them into an oval or square tipped shape – but either way, make sure they stay short,” explains manicurist, Loui-Marie. “This type of style provides the perfect backdrop for these colours, allowing them to look edgy and cool. Make sure you apply a really glossy top coat, too, it’ll keep them looking sophisticated and prevent them looking dirty.”

NEUTRAL TAUPES:

Neutral hues will never go out of season – fact. The only difference this season is the colours are more of a putty beige, as opposed to summer’s fleshy pink tones. It’s a manicure that looks chic for any season, just make sure your nails are well-conditioned. “The trend for cleaner, pared back beauty has definitely transcended into nails. This type of ‘natural nail finish’ is at an all-time high, but it’s key to make sure your tips look clean for this finish,” says Ama. “The key to battling and maintaining chipped, brittle nails is keeping them hydrated and flexible with IBX treatments – it’s technically Olaplex for nails and makes any nude mani complete.”

METALLIC FINISHES:

“We’ve all seen ombre designs in pastels and bright shades, however the chicest of the three (and the perfect A/W pairing) has to be ombre in metallics,” says Ama. “Think rose and molten golds, coppers and silver all bleeding into one another.” The perfect accessory to any LBD this autumn. And if you don’t want to do every nail in shimmer, paint a regular mani and opt for metallic on just one tip, like an ‘accent nail’ for something a bit different.

DEEP LIQUORICE HUSE:

Glossy, jet-black nails were seen over and over throughout fashion week, proving that black nail polish is always chic and an autumn trend that’s here to stay. To avoid them looking like a ‘Halloween vibe,’ keep the nail short and filed neatly. It’s an elegant, cool alternative to pillar box red, and it really makes a statement against all complexions – especially cooler tones.

MUTED MAUVES:

While nudes are still a go-to for autumn, Loui predicts neutrals with taupe and mauve undertones will reign supreme. “These colours shake up a traditional ‘nude manicure’ for something more subversive and noticeable,” she says. “These types of shades should be a staple in everyone’s nail wardrobe for autumn, not least because they’re flattering, especially on dark and olive complexions.”
