The Sustainable Beauty Brands To Have On Your Radar

Google searches for ‘sustainable beauty’ are on the rise, proving our commitment and desire for greener living. The result? There’s now a plethora of different brands claiming to deliver results and take care of the planet. If you’re keen to make your routine more eco-conscious, here are the names to know.

@LOVEBEAUTYANDPLANET

Love, Beauty & Planet

Launched by Unilever, Love Beauty & Planet is a sustainable personal-care brand that’s fun, fragrant, certified vegan and housed in 100% recycled bottles. The buttery formulas feel luxe and belie their affordable price tags. Our favourites? Look out for the gentle body scrubs which thoroughly remove dead skin cells and dull patches, without causing dryness.

Eco credentials: All of the brand’s packaging is made from 100% recyclable bottles, while the ingredients list is free from any nasties, using sustainably sourced formulas from small farms across the world – from swamplands in Australia to fields in France. They also contribute to a carbon tax fund, which supports third party programmes to reduce their carbon emissions and landfill waste.

@RENSKINCARE

REN

REN has made a firm commitment to be zero waste by 2021 and they continue to move towards that goal at lightning speed. Cutting back on unnecessary packaging, they’ve partnered with eco-brand Loop to create refillable versions of their six bestselling body products, so you never have to go without. Stock up on the brand’s website or via Loop. Then use it, return it and receive your full bottle back. It’s minimal faff for maximum environmental pay off. As for the rest of the line, expect naturally derived ingredients across all of their products, with formulas that deliver results and never cause any irritation.

Eco credentials: REN uses only recycled or recyclable packaging with a goal to be zero waste by 2021. They’ve also partnered with Surfrider Foundation – a non-profit organisation which is dedicated to protecting oceans and beaches from environmental impact. Expect only naturally derived ingredients that are gentle and kind to skin.

@SPECTRUMCOLLECTIONS

Spectrum Brushes

One of our favourite brands for tools, Spectrum’s brushes are made using sustainable wood and bamboo handles with zero animal hair in sight. The benefits don’t stop there – they’ve also cut their plastic packaging by 50% and plan to continue on this trajectory for the future. You’ll find every tool you need in the range, but we love the fluffy, tapered blender brushes for defining colour, smudging hard lines and creating seamless, all-over coverage.

Eco credentials: Spectrum only use sustainable packaging and have minimised their use of plastic across the range. They also give 1% of their gross revenue to plastic clean-up efforts and are vegan and cruelty-free, too.

@VOLITIONBEAUTY

Volition

New brand Volition is regularly spied on the main feeds of top beauty bloggers. Created to fill the gaps in your skincare regime, the brand is set to make waves with a collection of game-changing and eco-friendly products. Cruelty-free and described as ‘clean’, they leave out all the nasties, and the packaging is recyclable, too. Our favourite from the range is their Strawberry-C Serum; it’s already earned rave reviews thanks to its smoothing, brightening and soothing benefits. Brimming with vitamin C and strawberry extracts, it boosts luminosity, diffuses the appearance of fine lines and lends skin an unbeatable glow. The cooling texture feels amazing, too.

Eco credentials: Formulated without any chemicals – think aluminium, coal tar or formaldehyde – all the products combine natural ingredients with clean/safe synthetic ones to offer the best performance. Volition’s packaging is also recyclable, and they use the EWG (Environmental Working Group) to cross-check all their ingredients and ensure they’re using the cleanest formulations possible.

As the world’s first 90% plastic-free haircare brand, they’re determined to deliver on sustainability with formulas that use natural nourishing oils. The brand is also planning to launch non-plastic recyclable tube refills in the near future and will be donating a portion of its revenues to 1% For The Planet – a global environmental organisation.

Eco credentials: All ingredients are sustainably sourced, while the brand is proud to say they’re free from plastic, sulphates and parabens. They’re also vegan and cruelty-free, too.
