Saie Founder Laney Crowell Shares Her Little Black Beauty Book

Former magazine editor, Estée Lauder executive and now founder of make-up brand Saie – it’s safe to say Laney Crowell is full of insider beauty knowledge. Here, she reveals the names and places she relies on time and again…

SHOU SUGI BAN HOUSE

For Unusual Treatments

I often get a super deep lymphatic massage in New York City. They are so painful, it’s hard to take – you actually beg the masseuse to stop. And that’s after you’ve been left to sit in the infrared sauna, where you get unbearably hot for over 30 minutes while wrapped in black cling wrap. Why do I do it? The results are so immediate and unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. I keep going back for more torture.

For Luxe Facials

I adore the massages and facials at Shou Sugi Ban House in Southampton. It’s the most aesthetically pleasing spa, with treatments that provide the ultimate relaxation. If you’re ever that way, you have to book in and go. I’m also a huge fan of the signature Triple Crown Facial at Johanna Vargas. The lift is so satisfying and, again, results are immediate – you can expect a warm glow and youthful-looking skin from the off. Her products are incredible too if you can’t reach a spa.

For Hair Cut & Colour

I rarely get my hair cut, but when I do, I’ll go and see Jacob Rozenberg. He’s always busy with editorial shoots and supermodels (his Instagram is so fun to follow) but he always fits me in when he’s in town.

For Skincare Saves

At night time I always use Vintner’s Daughter Essence and Face Oil, as well as the Furtuna Eye Cream. It’s a simple and succinct routine that leaves less room for mistakes. Both are so good at boosting radiance and glow, while softening skin.

For Repeat Buys

I go through tubes and tubes of our Saie Sunvisor and Glowy Super Gel. They are my holy grail products. The Sunvisor is ideal for those who like a product that does everything – it acts as a serum, moisturiser and SPF in one, saving you too many unnecessary steps. It’s the same with our newest addition, Slip Tint, and my make-up bag hero, Mascara 101 – everyone should try this, even if I do say so myself.

For Haircare Favourites

Rahua is the best haircare brand in my opinion. I love its shampoo – it really does the job of softening strands and keeping them shiny. I also use Dae’s Monsoon Hair Mask as my conditioner because it’s just so nourishing and instantly bolsters hydration.

For Neat Nails

I think the chicest thing to do is buff only – no polish. I have a manicurist that comes to my house so I can work while getting my nails done. The bonus of no polish? No drying time and no chips. But having an expert shape and file them means they’re always in good condition with a healthy finish.

For Nail Remedies

The brand 10 Over 10 has the most convenient cuticle oil that I love. I take it everywhere with me and apply it at least once a day. It keeps my nails looking healthy and strong with a pinky glow.

For Great Brows

The only person that will ever touch my brows is Jimena Garcia. She is a dear friend and incredibly talented. Because she’s so great, the only thing I need to do is groom with Saie Brow Butter in Medium Brown.

For A Luxe Bath

I adore a bath – who doesn’t? My tub isn’t complete without the Nature of Things’ gorgeous CBD Salts. Designed to soothe tension and aid tiredness, they provide an instant pick-me-up. I always keep a Nette candle by the tub too. The new scent Queen is perfection – I defy you not to like that.

For Anti-Ageing At Home

Exfoliation and hydration is key. The latter is essential to beautiful, clear skin. Likewise, stay clear of excessive coffee, drink as much water as you can, and stick to hydrating skincare. For anti-ageing products, I can never get enough of the Dr Dennis Gross Daily Peel Pads. They are lifesavers and give skin a speedy overhaul. I love the brand’s LED mask as well – since quarantine I invested in a lot of high-tech tools but this is by far my favourite for smoothing out skin tone.

For Wellbeing

I always start my day off with a glass of lemon water, followed by ten minutes of meditation. Cleansing my body and mind first thing in the day makes such a difference to how I feel and look. I don’t drink coffee because it’s so dehydrating. Instead, I swear by a tea latte with nut milk and raw honey. I move every day too with either Pilates, yoga or tennis. I love to end the day with a good stretch, but also a facial massage with my Hayo’u Gua Sha

For Beauty Shopping

I love to explore Goop.com and I learn about new products from Instagram and TikTok all the time. I will always be a traditional magazine lover too – they remain a great place to find products. Cosying up with a great mag is one of my favourite pastimes. I still tear out pages and save them for reference.

For A Go-To Fragrance

I really like Ellis Brooklyn’s Myth fragrance. It’s clean, chic and actually lasts, unlike some I’ve tried before.
