Why Alicia Keys’ New Beauty Brand Keys Soulcare Is Worth It

Why Alicia Keys’ New Beauty Brand Keys Soulcare Is Worth It

If you’ve not yet heard of Keys Soulcare, prepare to see it everywhere. Not only is the brand dermatologist-developed and cruelty-free, it's founded by none other than global superstar Alicia Keys – believe us when we say it’s worthy of the shelf space. Offering everything from nourishing cleansers to gentle exfoliators, the products are designed to build a skincare routine that’s not only effective but luxurious and relaxing, too. Here’s what Alicia has to say about the range, as well as three of our favourite products worth trying…

CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KEYS SOULCARE

The Background…

Labelled as ‘beauty with intention’, Keys Soulcare was created in partnership with renowned dermatologist, Dr. Renée Snyder, to come up with a line of skincare essentials that are both cruelty-free and highly effective. You’ll notice though, they don’t labour over specific or outlandish claims – instead, the brand focuses on different ‘Soulcare benefits’. Put simply, it’s not just about enhancing the look of your skin, but what it can do for your mind, body, spirit, too.

What Alicia Says…

Sometimes, celebrity brands can feel disconnected from their mission, but it’s the opposite with Keys Soulcare. Everything has been designed to tie in with Alicia’s belief in soul-nurturing mantras and love of personal self-care. Speaking about the brand, Alicia says: “The truth is, self-care and self-love have always been important to me. It’s not just the products I use, it’s also the space I give myself to slow down. To meditate. To do a face mask or to light my favourite candle. It’s these moments – these rituals – that nurture me and make me feel connected, body, mind and spirit. It’s my one wish that every soul experiences these moments of self-love and acceptance, so we can all shine brighter together.”

The Formulas & Ingredients…

‘Clean’ beauty is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot in the industry. While the definition has yet to be agreed on by experts, there’s no doubt Keys Soulcare has eliminated the use of unnecessary ingredients. With 1,680 substances restricted by the FDA and European Union Cosmetics Regulation Guidelines, you can be rest assured each one has been excluded from every Keys Soulcare product. That means no parabens, no phthalates, and zero sulfates or lead. Some standout ingredients used include Manuka Honey, Tuermeric and Bakuchiol. The latter works as a plant-based alternative to retinol, gently boosting cell turnover within your skin, but without any tell-tale inflammation that's often associated with traditional vitamin A. As for Manuka Honey, this is used to lock in hydration and protective antioxidants, while Turmeric lends calming and soothing benefits so that your complexion feels refreshed, instead of stripped.

The Line-Up…

The 12-piece collection is designed to replicate a full skincare and soul-nurturing ritual, and cater to customers' wants and needs directly. Meanwhile the formulations are carefully-crafted to deliver only the very best ingredients – including exfoliating lactic acid, buffing mung beans, gentle oats, shea butter and nourishing cocoa butter to name a few. In the range, you’ll find their cult Golden Cleanser (a brand bestseller), a Luminous Exfoliator, Facial Roller and a beautiful candle, too – we love the calming, clean scent of Sage + Oat Milk. Extra points go to the violet glass bottles, that are not only recyclable, but attractive enough to display on your bathroom shelf, too.

Three Of Our Standout Buys...

Golden Cleanser, £20

Made with Manuka honey, soothing turmeric and chamomile, this lightweight cleanser is incredibly gentle, but still maintains that luxe, feeling. A must-try for those who suffer from sensitive skin, it keeps inflammation at bay while the addition of honey encourages wound healing. It helps skin to feel refreshed rather than stripped, and swiftly breaks down all traces of make-up, and dirt stuck inside your pores. You’ll love the sandalwood scent, too.

Luminous Exfoliator, £22

Powder-based, this water-activated exfoliant is not only kinder to the environment, but also your skin. Using rice bran, and antioxidant-rich hojicha powder (a Japanese green tea), it swiftly buffs away dead, dull skin cells to leave behind a smoother, more luminous surface. It lathers up well, too – plus, you’ll love the satisfying, creamy foam that doesn’t feel stripping, just nourishing and smooth.

Transformation Cream, £30

The star ingredient in this plumping cream is bakuchiol – a plant-based alternative to retinol, which works to smooth, strengthen and boost radiance, too. You’ll also find ceramides and water-loving hyaluronic acid inside – both of which quench the skin with lasting moisture and lock it in for hours, too. Suitable for all skin types both morning and night, it’s incredibly gentle, while the watery formula leaves behind an unbeatable glossy dewiness.
